What do you like??! *grins*

If you look at any of my "book update" messages I tend to list a whole load of books at once.. the one above is particularly big as it was a holiday reading post!!!

or just read some posts randomly.. loads of books have been discussed here!

"The Fat Girl's Guide to Life" by Wendy Shanker. I'm reading it now and it's hilarious, and right on.

Also, check out Dr. Bob's Book Ideas page:

http://dr-bob.org/books/

Before the PB books board was up, we used to get our posts about books quoted there, and he has rec's from colleagues, interns, et. al.

I'm currently enjoying "Life of Pi" as well as some books on pianos, as I am looking around for a piano to buy and want to take lessons (after many many many years of not playing).

Penny's suggestion reminds me of "Heartburn" by Nora Ephron. I laughed my way through it!

And how ironic that Wendy Shanker would mention that very book in "The Fat Girl's Guide to Life"? She said that Ephron wrote of having her group therapy session 'mugged' so to speak, and a similar thing happened to Shanker, except it was her Weight Watchers meeting. She said she took it as a sign that she should be happy being the weight she was. :-)

Hi partlycloudy,

Want to read a book together? I get books delivered from the library, and my next shipment is this Friday. I'll have to check and see which ones I ordered for this time. Maybe you could get another copy from the library if we decide on one.

Sounds like fun! Wanna try?

Sandy

Hi partlycloudy,

It's still raining today, so I guess you're not coming visiting. Lol.

I looked at my list of books that will be arriving on Friday. Let me know if you're interested in any of these. If not, I'll get a new delivery in 3 weeks. I could put something on hold that we both want to read together.

"From Potter's Field" is a book in the series of Dr. Kay Scarpetta. She's a fictional forensic pathologist. I enjoy the books, but I think this is #5 in the series. It's rather hard to come into the stories without knowing people and events from previous stories. So you may not want to choose that one.

"House of Sand and Fog" should be a goodie. I've got the movie on hold as well, but I read somewhere that the movie and book are pretty close to each other. That always makes the movie better!! I can't stand it when you read a book and then are disappointed by the movie.

"The Light of Day" may be the book we want to share this time. It's about women prisoners/private investigators. Fictional. It's a new book (2003) and has a lot of holds on it here, so you may have difficulty getting it.

"One Tuesday Morning" is by my favorite Christian writer, Karen Kingsbury. This is a fictional based on 9-11. A fireman and a businessman at the World Trade Centre.

"A Slender Thread: Rediscovering Hope at the Heart of Crisis". Thought I'd give it a try.

"The Suicidal Mind". Again, can't hurt to read it.

"The Surgeon". Another fictional female forensic pathologist. Not as well written as the Kay Scarpetta series, but still interesting.

"Return" is also a series book. It's by my fav Christian author again, Karen Kingsbury. But you really need to start at book #1 to follow the family through their history. So this wouldn't be a good choice.

Okay, now to see if these double double quotes worked properly. Lol!

Hugs,
Sandy

So many great choices! I think I'd like to try "The Light of Day" with you. I have read "Potter's Field" - I am such a Kay Scarpetta fan. Did you read her book about Jack The Ripper?

I'm excited to be doing this - thanks for thinking of me!

Hi pc,

Okay, so we have a date for "The Light of Day".

If you read faster than me, don't worry about it. Normally, I'm an avid reader!! But you know how the ba-hum bugs can take away your energy. When I ordered all those books for Friday's delivery, I was in an upswing. Now I'm not sure. But it's good to keep focused on something. So I will try to keep up the energy. Who knows? Maybe by Friday I'll be feeling fine again.

Don't you hate the need for such a board as Psycho-Babble? Too bad just a little extra caffeine and a fresh supply of doughnuts wouldn't do the trick! *smile*

Hugs,
Sandy
