remeron is an antidepressant

Posted by linkadge on November 6, 2013, at 19:45:33

Over the years, I have probably had more success with remeron than other antidepressants. As an antidepressant, I would say it can be as effective as any other.

In terms of my core symptoms of depression (i.e. insomnia, anxiety, loss of appetite, anhedonia etc), it seems to work faster and more completely than other drugs.

I don't need a lot (maybe 7.5 - 15mg).

I also find that on remeron I am less detached socially. I can relate to people better. I fill less 'different'. I.e. I probably have some autistic like traits that it seems to help.

The hang over is not a problem for you?

It goes away somewhat?

it helps me with anhedonia and depression too, though less so with anxiety .. in fact, I become a little bit manic/unhinged on it which is typical with NE drugs.

I assume it works better in conjunction with an AD

my understanding is anything less than 15mg. is purely an antihistamine and no affect on serotonin or n.e. is that correct?

For me it made me gain 50 lbs after 1 year of treatment .. taking 30mg dose at bedtime.

Wow 50 pounds! I've only used 7.5mg. I am 125 pounds and can't gain even 5 pounds.

I understand that it does have side effects that are deal breakers for many. However, I was just commenting on the efficacy of remeron against my core symptoms of depression.

When I take an SSRI, I could take it 6 months and not be sure if I am really any better or happier.
When I take remeron, it is clear that I am happier. I enjoy playing the piano again, I enjoy watching movies and going for walks, I enjoy reading. I enjoy working, biking etc. I understand there are heavy side effects, but in terms of actually reducing depression I have found it more effective than other drugs.

Definetely!
Remeron is one of the best ADs in the market.
I used it for sleep for 9 years, and I gained 50 lbs in the first year.
Some people get metabolic syndrome whereas some other doesnt.
Above 30mg, weight gain is a problem.
