I guess its a bit of a dinoasure, but like many similar drugs, its right for a small number of patients..... who the hell prescribes Tofranil, Thorazine, amitriptyline, Sinequan? For a few people they are the right med for them, so its good thatt hey are still on the market.
Lilly tried to stop selling nortriptyline in Australia a few years ago, saying that sales were so small it wasnt worth the efort, but the health department and the college of psychiatrists persuaded them to keep distributing it in the public interest (with a price increase)

I do and for some reason my body likes it. Been on it ll years at varying doses. I wish could change as really doesn't work but being up round the clock irreguardless of the amount of benzos I take isn't an option. Why do you dislike luvox so much. And right now the extended version is under patent so it is currently being prescribed quite a bit. In a way that's like saying why is prozac or Maois being prescribed anymore just as old wouldn't you agree? Three pdocs prescribed luvox for me. Phillipa ps no effect on caffeine for me. I'd think the food interractions of an MAOI would be of more concern? Do you disagree? Phillipa

I've never been Rx'd luvox, but then again I don't really have OCD and it seems like a long-haul medication, whereas I'm usually given antidepressants for just a little while.
It seems OK though. Some people w/ psychotic depression respond to it as monotherapy, and that's definitely a plus. Maybe now that its in XR and on patent they'll do a better, bigger study on that.

I don't understand.
Are you trying to get a script and feeling frustrated?
There are people onboard who use it for a range of anxiety disorders. It works for them. Older, seemingly unwieldy medicines, such as maoi's and others have a valuable place in treatment plans.
Hope you have or are getting one together for yourself.

EMSAM is the latest maoi med released and a good one for some as the maois are also for some. Crazyjoe why do you feel dosing ranges are a problem? Starting dose 25mg or 50mg and can increase as needed up to 300mg. That's the regular generic. Will see what luvox CR doses are. Phillipa

Nice handy list, imo.
Luvox CR had a much higher user rating than regular.
The variety of medications listed once again reminded me how different we are as responders. Some of the meds listed created anxiety for me :-)

Tegretol is basically the same as trileptal and I took that with luvox no problem? Phillipa

I was supposed to go up to 300mg but too expensive so stopped but no problem. I feel it depends on the dose of luvox you take as a low dose doesn't do much of anything now if at 250 probably would make a difference. But like you I err on the side of safety. Got to feel comfortable or won't work. Phillipa

Bucket loads of amitriptyline (mainly 10mg and 25mg tablets) are prescribed by GPs in the UK for various pain disorders and sometimes insomnia. Pdocs use it very little though.

phillipa, you seem like the expert on luvox ---most people don't even know that it is the oldest ssri on the market-people automatically assume it was prozac ---prozac came on the market in the late 1980's and the rest was history-yet luvox didn't come to america until 1994 but was available in europe long before prozac---i wonder why it did not come to the united states earlier??? your thoughts..

They only approved it for OCD and not depression is what I think of at the time. Now the long acting version is for both. Phillipa

i think your right phillipa--but how does the first ssri linger around europe for 7-8 years before being brought to the biggest market in the world --red tape -politics whats up???

Now that would call for a google search on history of luvox by Solvay the original manufacturers of it. Phillipa
