I am, at the moment, categorized as BP NOS. I am taking the following drugs:

Nardil: 90 mg
nortriptyline: 15 mg
Lamictal: 200 mg
Abilify: 10 mg
lithium: 300 mg

This pile of chemicals seems to be working to improve depression and anxiety.

You may want to bring on board a mood-stabilizer like Depakote or Trileptal. Depakote will almost surely prevent hypomania.

Hi Scott,

I'm not sure about hypomania, just something strange. Withdrawing from snri's alerted me that I felt better. Yet I was and became more depressed.

Depakote didn't seem to help a smidge years ago. Then, that was with various selective Ad's.

I hadn't realized your dx shifted. Nos is such a bear :(

I'm revisiting my old dx. So your answer is a tentative yes
towards the relative safety for some BP individuals? Safer than ssri/snri's?

I don't think I can do w/o an AD. I was thinking a small dose of lithium. If not, maybe others you have mentioned.

Thanks.

I won't say no to depakote if my doc brings it up. I think it affects women a bit differently, an endocrine disruptor, maybe?

Does emsam at higher doses eventually become less stimulating? Something about a or b inhibition.

This stuff is tough for me to understand :-/

Hi Phillipa,

I'm looking at everything, my history, my reactions to meds, past dx's. I want to feel better. Whatever it's called, whatever works is not as important anymore. Does this make sense? I could
be on the BP spectrum and also have cptsd. My own pdoc looks at me not knowing what to do. I am trying to think my way through this.

FB got a but statement isn't EMSAM helping I thought it was? I've always been diagnosed as having an anxiety disorder. Up here so many are depressed that's the diagnosis of the day in this area. Now go someplace else and it could be different. I do know my physical problems, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, hasimotos thyroiditis, old lyme's disease, and now the spine curvature. Each time I get a physical diagnosis I get anxious and if I let it get out of hand then get sad. But somehow I must fight. In the beginning all the ad's made me extremly anxious, have been on trileptal and lamictal as adjunct to anxiety/depression. Deplin also. Benzos and luvox so far aren't going anywhere. Knowing you have physical illnesses to me is very distressing. Yes of course you deserve to feel well and a diagnosis doesn't define who you are. Now I ask does this make sense? love Phillipa

Well yes, maybe yesterday and today are just bad days and nothing will change that for me. Maube it's the nature of fibromyalgia, my inability to deal with stress, my MI, my distress tolerance skills.

Right now, xanax doesn't touch the stimulation and irritation I feel. I can eat it like candy. I don't think that's good.

The two bad days are following two o.k. days in which I swam for the first time in seven years--since before my son was born. So then Sat and Sun I had more pain. More norco :( just to get by.

The two 'bad' days coincide with trying Valium. It makes me groggy and down
feeling. I actually disobeyed my gp's instructions by taking xanax today. Just to feel o.k. It's not a big help either. I don't understand having a benzo of 12
years just quit. I mean I can't feel it. This creeps me out.

I will be telling my pdoc about taking the
xanax. I didn't have it in me to call my
gp over the weekend and complain or beg. She's gung-ho about withdrawing me from xanax. I don't feel good about this either

I feel I can work honestly with my pdoc.
I have to be honest or what's the point of asking for help?

I just have to get through these next few
days. Unfortunately, I post here when I have a question I can't Google, and I have alot of them. I just can't stand
seeing my name all over the board. It's getting darn ridiculous. :(

I really appreciate your asking Phillipa.

FB I understand now. That is what happened to me with the switch from xanax to klonopin that time but at the time xanax still worked well. Just to me it kind of sounds like what has happened to me the benzos just don't work the same anymore. And you have to ask questions. And definitely no google can't answer them all or even some sometimes. I do feel you should stick with the emsam for a while as it seems to be working. It't the sleeping that's giving you problems? I'm so glad you went swimming good for you. I haven't seen extremes in mood though. But that's just l. Many more may see things a lot differently. I'm sorry. Love Phillipa

Hi FB,

I was reading your post and it seems like you need an emergency "go-to" drug for times of extreme panic, etc. I hope your doctor will help you find something that works.

I think extra exertion can throw your system off a little. At least it seems that way for me. I went swimming the other day and I think I'm still recovering.

I hope you are doing okay..is the EMSAM still working for you?

Hi Roslynn :+)

Nice to see you. Xanax was the to-go emergency med. You are spot on, I think. Emsam does something, guess it is working. I certainly would consider it for med sensitive types.

I'm wondering about the point at which it decreases being stimulating and more,...
something.

Valium is feeling more like klonopin--depressive. It's always something, it seems

Kind regards, and hope the swimming was fun,

Roslynn, do you have a go to med for yourself (if you need one, that is)?

What is it?

My pdoc once thought out loud, something he does often, about saphris, you put it in your cheek. But he has never suggested it for me.

I see him tomorrow, thank goodness.

I hope you are well enough,

Hi fb,

Well, I just take Ativan prn and I'm also on Seroquel but trying to get off. Seroquel will calm you down but it makes me really sleepy.

I've heard of Saphris but thought it was supposed to taste terrible (?)

Good luck tomorrow.

Thanks Roslynn,

That's the second reccommendation for ativan. That makes my short list.
