What dose of Sulpiride for Social Anxiety?

Posted by Tom Twilight on November 1, 2006, at 13:33:54

High there

Does anyone have any experience of using Sulpiride?

I'm just wondering what doses were affective.

Did it work for anxiety or depression?

Hi Tom

I'd suggest trying half a 200mg tablet daily.

Hi

I am on 600mg a day, but that is mainly for bipolar I psychosis. It had none of the drowsiness of other APs and kept me sociable and calm when I used to be a wreck. I just stopped having periods but that obviously won't affect you!
I started on 200mg once a day and that worked for me for a long time. I would say that the feeling of being calm and in control was the best thing about it.

Good luck

What's the difference between the two? I had heard of amisulpride and was going to try some until I found out it causes women's periods to stop, which can't be healthy. But I've never heard of sulpride.

From what I recall of what I've read, I think that 50 mg - 300 mg is what's usually used for depression... as well as for negative psychotic symptoms. For positive symptoms, the dose is much higher - the same pattern as for amisulpride.

...fwiw, I just took a look at Scott's (a.k.a. SLS) web page [ http://sl.schofield3.home.att.net/medicine/psychiatric_drugs_chart.html ] & he's got 50-200 mg Sulpiride for use as an antidepressant.

I think one way you may be able to tell if you get your dose too high, is that it will make you sleepy. Should that happen, I'd try backing the dose down, perhaps 50 mg at a time, for a couple of days at each level, until you lose the sedation. ...just a thought - good luck.

Oh...

Yes! :-)

I've taken 150mg for 7 years w/o any reduction in efficacy. Negligible side-effects. Because it's an AP it makes sense to find the optimal dose.

Little effect on depression but unrivalled (for myself) for social phobia. Full benefits experienced within a matter of hours and I've never looked back. Same goes for my brother.

Good to see you took the leap of faith Tom.

How did you manage to get your hands on it?

Sulpiride vs amisulpiride

So there is a real difference? This is the consensus?
We don't have sulpiride here, I don't think.

Hi Dec

Sulpiride (Dolmatil) and amisulpride (Solian) are chemically similar but differ in potency ie. amisulpride is given at lower doses. Sulpiride and amisulpride appear to have a similar mechanism of action but some people respond better to one than the other. Hormonal side effects (due to hyperprolactinaemia) are very common with both drugs. Although generic amisulpride was recently introduced in the UK, sulpiride, an older drug, is still far less expensive.

Hi

I didn't put on much weight with Sulpiride, maybe half a stone (7 pounds)or 10 pounds max in 6 years but part of that could be age and not being a great dieter. The worst for me was Olanzapine where I put on at least 14 pounds in no time.

Hi -

Just wondering, do you take 50 mg tid, or 150 mg once daily?

Btw, is sulpiride available in the UK? [I thought I remembered you saying long ago that you're in the UK - sorry if I've got that wrong] I'm in the US where it's not available, but most recently I ordered it online from Canada.

Thanks,

michael

Yes, it is. It is available as a generic and under several different brand names eg. Dolmatil.
