Klonopin could be the answer...

Posted by TrishP on December 20, 2005, at 10:50:28

Ok - so I actually went to the docter yesterday after 4 months! She actually agreed with me that if the Klonopin works, perhaps I should take it on a more regular basis. She suggested .25 in morning and .25 in morning and .25 in afternoon. That doesn't sound like much to me, but we'll see. Maybe if I still take my .5 at night before bed it will work out.

She also suggested that if I need the pep, to take a small dose of Wellbutrin.

Since my love life needs a spark, maybe between the calmness from the Klonopin and the Wellbutrin, it could be a good combo.

She suggested only 75mg of Wellbutrin. This sounds too small to me.

I'm thinking of starting out with 100SR around lunch. That would get me through the day and the Klonopin would take the edge off.

Any thoughts? Does anyone else use this combo?

I used both of these meds at the same time and had very little success. The klonopin just made me feel tired and the Wellbutrin just made me feel mad. You should be aware that both of these drugs are also known to "poop" out on people after extended use.

Hope that helps...

klonopin by far has been the best of drugs to treat my GAD and SAD. I've been taking it 12 years, no poop out.

But it didn't start working till I got over 1mg. I've heard of others that didn't have much luck with it till they took a higher dose usually between 1 and 4 mgs.

I take it at night, not at day. It helps me sleep and I don't wake up tired. The sedative side affects go away, but the anti anxiety benefits remain. I have heard a few say that it can poop out and perhaps it does with certain individuals, but I don't think its the norm. I also wonder if it poops out because of a low dose.

Because klonopin has such a long half life if you taking it everyday you should be able to take it just at bedtime. That should help with feeling tired.

Blending it with an anti depressent is quite common and seems as so many that have anxiety as their primary problem have issues with mild or moderate depression/energy & low mood problems.

I think the klonopin is half of the solution. The anti depressants are just trial and error but if energy is what you seek, wellbutrin would be a good one to try (though it's not know to help with anxiety).

I had bad luck with both meds. The klonopin just dulled me and the wellbutrin landed me in the hospital as I appeared manic. Fondly, Phillipa

I think the combo of an AD and a benzo can be very effective AND (really important) quite effective over time. The specifics of which AD and which benzo is the difficult part, but I think it can be done and has been done well by a number of people.

I have also used Klonopin for years without tolerance or decreased effectiveness.

I’ve done both classes of meds singularly and in combo. For depression with anxiety or anxiety with depression - depending on how one “sees” their problem - I think it’s a good choice and works out to be a good treatment.

I take 1mg at night and half twice/day..sometimes though (as mentioned) I will take two mg at night and I ramain calm all day without the withdrawl that Zanax has. 5 mg of Lexapro also. I have tried every combo and this works best for me. SSRIs are hard to adjust to. K takes a few weeks to adjust to but is not unpleasant. Too bad about UK restrictions. I travel frequently and you can buy benzos over the counter in many countries very cheap.
