Nothing they can do for me

Posted by D minor on April 8, 2005, at 22:33:58

So, I told my pdoc that I'm still hallucinating, and guess what he said. He said I'm already on two antipsychotics. And that as long as the voices weren't telling me to kill myself I should just ignore them. My psychologist is of the same oppinion. I've tried just about every
AP that I am willing or able to try.

I know the hallucinations aren't such a "big deal." But still, I feel like a freak of nature. I guess I'll just have to ajust to the occasional whispering that isn't really there.

Sorry to complain, just needed to vent

I have had hallucinations in the past- mine weren't really disturbing, just weird. Like once I Saw a banner hanging from the wall that read, " HOMEWORK." I couldn't figure out why my husband had put it there (considering I'm not in school) so I stood up on the couch to remove it before I Realized it there was nothing really there.

I hallucinated one other time- it was more freaky, I saw myself sit up and look down at myself clapping. It was strange. Like I came out of my body.

BUT both these times I was on Lexapro and I never hallucinated again until tonight- my blood sugar became high and I was seeing colorful numbers.

Don't ask me why. I have no idea.

My dad is bipolar and he hallucinates often. He talks to people that aren't there. One night he went "fishing" in the middle of the living room floor. I just went along with him, he claims we caught a few good "catches." LOL

But, I'm reminded of the movie, " A beautiful mind." somehow he has learned to just ignore his hallucinations.

My thought is how would you know when they are hallucinations or real? Because the times I hallucinated, it was very real??

I don't know. That's a tough one.

There are many antipsychotics that act very differently. Tell your pdoc that you need to try different meds till they work.

Hi:
In my 'personal' experience with the pdocs., ... I went 3 - 4 pdocs. in the past including a current pdoc. who is my pdoc. for the past four year, most of pdocs. suggest Bper's a need of time, due to the severity of M.I.). Although, med. combo. is a very first-line for us to get better, however like any other 'serious' illnesses, it's also needed 'time' to recover from a disaster(can't find a right word for, ...), Bp.

In my case, ... it took almost 3 - 4 years to feel better even with a right med. combo. It's a lot of pain and hurt to know this, ... but it's true for most cases, if you got any serious illnesses.

In your previous post, above, ... it seems your Bp is a mixed state Bp, mostly likely Bp I with mixed state (or ultra-rapid cycler) as seeing you cycles very rapidly or several times within a day. I had a ultra-rapid cycler, but a right med. combo. along with 'time', both of which have helped me feel almost 'normal.' Then, you might need to give it more time that includes a lot of rest and non-stress environment.
In regard to Bp dx, ... it seems most of pdocs. do NOT tell officialy what form of Bp you have. They use # after Bp, ... i.e, Bipolar, mixed (#), ... I can't remember this well, ... but (#) shows the degree of your Bp.
H.G.

Anticonvulsants are often very good for auditory halucinations since they act directly on the temporal lobes. In a psychiatric journal I read an article recently that reported great success with the combination of an atypical and divalproex for schitophrenia with auditory halucinations. I will try to find the article.

I was the one who decided that I would rather put with them than treat them. Since I have reaction to anti-psychotics.

If Linkadge is right, then putting you on a mood stabiliser will have dual action. It will help your mood and the hallucinations.

So don't worry, you are not alone. (no pun intended) :-)

I hope what your pdoc meant was not to listen to them if they told you "bad" things. Yes, you need some sort of med adjustment. Fondly, Phillipa

Got more room on your boat? » D minor

Your post made me smile, pdocs telling you "voices weren't telling me to kill myself I should just ignore them."
I don't hear voices, occationally there is absence of sound. I have visual hallucinations since brain damage over 2 years ago, nothing frightening or upsetting, more starteling when something pops up quickly or colors go vivid and hypercontrasting. Docs can't imagine what it is like, and say rather silly stuff at times.
I often see objects I don't know or recognize as anything I 'know' or can know from experience. I started drawing what I see, as best I can reproduce it, images morph around on me.
Maybe you can put into prose what you hear, or your interpretation of it.
Not a freak of nature, but a better listener to what others cannot hear. Not a freak, but an interpreter of a reality gone unnoticed.

What you wrote is very poetic. I might quote you one day. :-)

Yes something like - "The Babbling Brook - Sayings to ease the mind"

Or how about "Synapses"?
Or "It's all Babble to me!"

Also a list of comebacks for smartass doctors (Racer could compile that one, right Racer?)

*snaps back to reality*

Banga did you know there is YAHOO group for PB where there are files for links to sites and various information?
