OMG... SHE SOMEHOW GOT INTO MY MEDICINE BAG ABOUT 45 MINUTES AGO.. I HAVE 6 PACKETS OF 30 MG DISOLVABLE TABLETS.. SHE TORE 3 PACKETS OPEN, MOST OF IT WAS EATEN.. I DONT KNOW HOW MUCH SHE ATE... SHE JUST PASSED OUT ON MY BED.. SNORING LOUD AS CAN BE. SHE IS A 4 MONTH OLD ENGLISH BULLDOG, WEIGHS ABOUT 25 LBS. I CALLED ANIMAL POISON CONTROL, THEY WANTED $50 CONSULTANT FEE, I DONT HAVE MONEY FOR A VET UNTIL FRIDAY :( DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS WILL FOR SURE KILL HER OR DOES SHE HAVE A CHANCE OF LIVING AND JUST SLEEP FOR HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS AND WAKE UP? PLEASE HELP!

I have no idea But I wouldn't take a chance. Can you pay for it with a credit card. I don't think they will turn you away if you can't pay.
did poison control think she should come in?

poison control said that it could cause respitory depression or heart attack. She is just laying on my bed sleeping, i hope she will be ok. my mom is on her way home, maybe she will take her to the vet. this is too sad.

Yes have your mom take her. I think she will be alright, but I really don't know. I was searching for it and I didn't find much ecept a reminder that all these drugs are tested on animals and they are given higher doses than what she took and are fine. I hope she is ok!

thanks rainbowbrite... I do see that they test remeron on "animals" and say that it's deadly for the fetus, etc. Do they mean rats though? Anyways, I am going to sleep next to her and I will post here tomorrow and let you know how she is doing. Thanks ...

Yes, take her to the emergency vet! Borrow money from a friend or your mother if you have to. Call the Vet ASAP, and find out if there is anything you can do! Fondly, Phillipa

I'm sorry that this happened happened with you. I really hope your dog is alright and gets better. It seems like very sad thing to have this happen.
The best thing to do is either call 911 or poison control and have her taken to a vet or hospital pronto. Hopefully, they can run some tests and give her something to get the drug clean from her body.
Some good news, though, is that death is usually not associated with Remeron overdose (unless it's mixed with overdose of other drugs) according to some studies. Some info about Remeron overdose can be found at the following sites:

Remeron is xxx. This medication is used mostly in the elderly population where variation in metabolism can be very different because of this reason. I dont know how many times the normal dose your dog consumed. In humans there are reports of people taking xxx times the normal dose without life threatening effects. Your dog is probably gonna be asleep for many hours due to mirtazapines long halflife. I haven't been able to find any ld50 values for mirtazapine so i can't really say how dangerous this dose might be. If you are unable to get to a vet check your dogs breathing until she wakes up.

It's not clear to me how much drug your dog was exposed to, i.e. how many tablets are in a packet? One? Ten?
The rat LD50 is xxx mg/kg, and your dog is over 11 kilos. Assuming similar toxicology, your dog would need to have ingested over xxx mg for a fatal dose. That said, respiratory depression is the biggest issue. If your dog's breathing is strong, then you should be somewhat reassured. In humans, respiration and heart function are monitored, and supported if required.
I know I come late to this issue, but I think your dog will be okay, if you got through the night okay.

Hello everyone....... Sigh of releif. She is ok.. she slept like a baby. She woke me up in the middle of the night with hiccups and that scared the crap out of me but she is fine :)

i don't understand why your dog would have the sudden urge to , eat your remeron, i mean how is it appealing to a dog, if anything it would repel a dog since it shouldn't taste good at all...

Um, my dog eats rabbit and squirrel poop. I assume that doesn't taste very good, but then I've never tried it.
She also eats all kinds of paper and stuff she can get ahold of. And the mortar from the fireplace. And the firewood.
I don't think she has very good taste.

haha, my dog eats my cats diahrea.. how nasty is that! She is still a puppy and will chew and eat anything that is on the floor. Man, it's like having a baby! This is my first dog so I need to be more careful with my meds laying around all over the place. I just cleaned my room SPOTLESS...

I had a dog that would eat anything that it could chew. She would eat spinach and tomatoes and no one believed me. Some dogs are not particular in what they eat. For god's sake, they all lick themselves, what could possibly taste worse????
