Klonopin conversely questions :-)

Posted by sdb on January 23, 2005, at 14:35:56

Everybody is asking if Klonopin cause...

I ask conversely if there is somebody without

-mental retardation, bad memory
-sedation
-sexual side effects

Do most use divided doses trough the day?

(Theoretically the plasma levels should accumulate because of the long half-life and therefore one time dosage should be possible)

Have you read that and do you agree?

Thank you very much

The only side effect i notice is memory impairment, but somehow this seems to have improved since i started with lithium.
I would rather say clonazepam has a good effect on my sexuality, i can relax more.

~~~Yes, but I am beginning to think I may be the only one or one of the few. Also, I'm one of the few (at least here) that Klonopin is monotherapy for me.
~~~I do - BID

~~~True, but that has not worked for me.
~~~After horrid trials of AD's that worsened my symptoms - for me, "normal" first line chemical therapy did not pan out. Also for me, comorbidity with clinical level depression was not necessarily a factor.

~~~You're welcome.
Hi:
Klonopin has not caused cognitive problems (stops my anxiety caused scatterbrain).
It has not caused any sexual problems at all (unlike the SSRI's I've been on).
I was slightly sedated when I first tried it, but after about 10 days or so, I adjusted and no longer felt sedated.
My memory has been worse since I've had anxiety, and has not improved with Klonopin. I cannot say that the Klonopin caused the memory problems. My Pdoc says it hasn't. He says that prolonged anxiety causes memory problems.
I take a low dose of Klonopin. (.25mg to .5mg per day). When I take .5mg, I take it in two .25mg doses. Seems to work best for me that way. Maybe very low amounts needs to be "topped" up after about 12 hours to maintain a steady state.
have anxiety with lots of energy/motivation but too nervous to talk to ppl or feel relaxed...
i started at .5 klonopin per day.
Advantages:
gold standard for anxiety, tried all other meds for it except triciclics and MAOI's and all were inferior.
no sexual side effects what so ever
maybe slight sedation for first weeks
feel calm and smooth, more productive
Disadvantages:
tolerance develops so now i take 5 mg per day...
however, i have not found any probs tapering off except return to the horibble anxiety experienced before, also was able to taper down to zero in
a week from 5 mg (your results may vary)
memory is affected somewhat but not in a bad way i would say, another way to look at it would be: maybe highly anxious ppl actually are too aware (memorize aspects of surroundings, life, social interaction) in order to feel "safer" since they are anxious. when you take konopin = no anxiety = so no need to be over aware... but if you ar trying to build a rocket ship or write your phd thesis on calculus and mathematics i would suggest lowering dose since it wil somewhat dull the ability to think at the edge of abstractness and logic for ppl who are able to do that in the first place. but then again only 2% of ppl are that smart so i would not worry about it. it's kinda like having 2 beers...you can think logically, but would you really wanna take you math final like that? prob not, but if you were giving the biggest speech of your career it would be a definite advantage...get my drift?
good luck
jc
