Mmmmm, shame the pharmaceutical companies spend so much money producing drugs with no real advantages over the drugs which are already available.

Desvenlafaxine WY 45233 DVS 233

Desvenlafaxine, an O-demethylated metabolite of venlafaxine, is being developed for the treatment of depression. Desvenlafaxine inhibits serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake and **has demonstrated antidepressant effect very similar to venlafaxine** in pre-clinical studies. Phase III trials for the treatment of major depressive disorder are underway in the USA.

Oh yay, what an innovation!!!!

..... I guess they don't want Cymbalta to overtake Effexor in popularity. I'm sure Wyeth will come up with some half-baked reason why their new drug is superior!

He He.... I'm convinced that escitalopram was one of the most over-hyped drugs of recent years. Hardly a breakthrough in psychopharmacology! It was a cynical exploitation of patent law!

I wonder what the trade name for desvenlafaxine will be...

ProEffexor?

Novo-Effexor?

SuperEffexor

Effexapro?

patents..NuVigil from Provigil from Adrafinil :) (nm)

It's getting to the point where I could probably synthesize my own ser/nor reputake inhibitor.
(kidding)

You can practically buy them by the scoopfull in the bulk store.

I really hope that the drug companies periodically visit these sites just to see how ashamed I am of them.

see now its different when its comes to a medicine that you find useful, such as Lyrica (which in all fairness isn't an isomer os neurontin, but is very related) and Lyrica is an improvement upon Neurontin and perhaps Nuvigil may be an improvment upon Provigil.

Hi Linkadge,

If anyone invents a 'new' SSRI I will scream! We don't need more SSRIs, we need something completely new. A dop/ser reuptake inhibitor might be a good place to start, or maybe a dop/nor/ser reuptake inhibitor.

You seem happier today btw, it's good.

I thought they should combine a cortisol regulating drug, with a drug that boosts BDNF.

Ie Mifestiprone + BDNF injections.

Hi,

A least pregabalin is a new molecule! Anyway, it remains to be seen how many people will find it better than gabapentin. It's so new. Some people might even prefer gabapentin! Also, some people might find it better than gabapentin because of a stronger placebo effect. Whenever people are led to believe that a new drug will be more effective, they often find that it is more effective. Results of medication are dependent on expectations as well as pharmacology!

Regards,
Ed.

PS. Glad you like Lyrica. Look forward to hearing updates.

TRUST me, even if people dont find Lyrica that helpful or mildly helpful for there condition, it is FAR superior than Neurontin! LOL! Mark my words - i know that no one would go back to Neurontin after using Lyrica (keep in mind using dose equivalents)

You'll have to gently encourage your pdoc to give you Nardil or Lamictal. You could suggest adding Nardil and Zyprexa to your Lithium. Have you stopped the Celexa now? Maybe you'd do well on Nardil+Lamictal+Lithium+Zyprexa !!! Big combination!

I would probably start with fewer meds. I've been on the giant list of combo's and I oftentimes find they just don't mix.

I wasn't suggesting that you should start them all at once!! Perhaps you could start Nardil and then add an antipsychotic if necessary.

When does Provigil go off patent, when is Nuvigil expected to be released? I really don't know. It seems to me that there have been several drugs that were about to go off patent and suddenly an extended release version shows up.

I don't know if it's all that bad; my wife did the trials for it fine, and can't take venlafaxine
