What's with this 'magical' Lexapro 20 mg dose crap

Posted by McPac on January 24, 2004, at 14:39:47

Why is the maker of Lexapro acting like 20 mg is some kind of 'magical' dose for ALL? As if EVERYBODY on Lexapro will have their most effective response at 20 mg, not 15 or 25 or 30 or WHATEVER. My doc (being the pharmaceutical marketing sheep like most of them are) sure enough prescribed it at that 'magical' 20 mg/day dose. (I never heard of a SINGLE dose for Zoloft, Prozac, Celexa or ANY other AD...you always have to work to find the best dosage for YOU as an individual). Anybody else out there find that 20mg/day of Lexapro just wasn't quite enough? I'm thinking that 25 mg (maybe even 30 mg/day) would be necessary to give me the AD effect that I need. Anybody else need MORE than 20 mg/day???

This is the first that I've heard that 20mg/day is standard. The manufacturer's website still says 10mg/day is the standard dose...

I'm sure different folks require different amounts. My pdoc had one person at 40mg/day, and that was the edge of his comfort level.

I differ with your opinion that most pdocs are sheep. I'm sure _some_ are, but disagree with your assessment of _most_...

> Anybody else need MORE than 20 mg/day???

I'm considering ramping up from 10mg to 15 or 20, but am uncertain as to how I can justify it - other than curiosity. My initial reaction to the 10mg was OK, but now I'm feeling some of the depression coming back. I'm in week 6 or 7 and think I need to ride it out a bit further before I ask for an increase.

Hi McPac,

This is the first time I've heard of lexapro referred to as a "single dose" med. My pdoc started me at 10 mg and said I could increase if I needed to, but I've found that 10 mg is ample so far.

There are people on this board who take less than 10 mg (some people are comfortable at 5 mg or 2.5 mg) and many people who post here take higher than 20 mg (I've met several who are on 30 mg and one person has a dose as high as 100 mg).

Even my pharmacist said that he's seen lexapro prescribed at a range of doses. Best of luck to you in finding the right one.

K.

I'm doing great on 10. Sounds more like you need a dr. who's willing to work with you.

I am on 20mg. 10mg wasn't enough, so my doctor increased it to 20. Why not 15mg? That's what I wondered. I think I am going cut back to 15 and see if that is sufficient.

(AP) Associated Press---(New York, NY) Last night in Madison Square Garden, ACE put his Nardil World Heavyweight Championship Title on the line against the challenger Hulk Hogan, of Venice Beach, California. Early in the match, the 6'5", 305-pound Hogan had ACE in a scary predicament, as he used a series of elbow smashes and massive leg drops to dizzy the champion. However, midway through the battle, ACE popped a Nardil tablet that he had hidden under the corner turnbuckle. In seconds, he was transformed into an unstoppable gargantuan of a beast and proceeded to walk through Hogan like a knife through hot butter! After popping the Nardil tablet, ACE unleashed a vicious barrage of overhand rights and floored the challenger, who STILL remains knocked out COLD as of this moment! It's just one more example of why he is still "The Nardil Heavyweight Champion of the World"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Keep taking your Nardil Ace.
