I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts or theories on this. I have taken a bunch of different AD's for the last couple years with varying degrees of improvement, but nothing signficant. However, I had a brief trial with Serzone in which I really felt fantastic after taking it for only a couple days and continuing, but gradually declining for about 3 weeks then back to the same old, same old. I tried Serzone again later without any effect.
The thing was, looking back on it, it was slightly hypomanic as I couldn't sleep, REALLY elevated confidence and self esteem, was actually doing my artwork again in a frenzy - but it felt really great. Recently, my doc suggested I try Prozac and Zyprexa together but couldnt start the Prozac cause I had just ended a trial of Parnate with no luck. So I was just taking the Zyprexa by itself which I only did for a couple days, but it was like it reversed my sleep cycle and made me manic. I was staying up all night doing things and actually getting into them and being able to focus on them, couldnt go to sleep at all because all sorts of thoughts and ideas were racing through my head, didnt even need to really sleep during the day either - very similar to the Serzone experience - but my doctor was stumped because he said Zyprexa usually reduces mania, but seemed to have the opposite effect on me.
Any thoughts? My main symptoms are depression, big time anedonia and apathy, and some anxiety.

Zoloft sent me into mania for the first time ever. The Dr. put me on zyprexa,lamactil,and klonopin. They worked fine but now I stopped klonopin and soon the others as i hate being doped up

There have been a few reports of people who have become hypomanic on the newer "atypical" antipsychotics such as Zyprexa, Risperdal, etc. The newer ones antagonize the 5-HT2c receptor (which is what makes them "atypical"). That might explain the hypomania. Serzone also is a 5-HT antagonist (5-HT2a, I think). You may just be sensitive to meds with this property. When I tried Seroquel (another atypical AP), I had a similar experience, but it happened when the med was wearing off, a kind of "rebound" effect. What happened to you also might have been an interaction between the Zyprexa and what was left of the Parnate washing out.

Ritch,Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing myself. But I didnt think of the Zyprexa interacting with the Parnate. Good one, Ill have to mention that to the doctor next time I go. Now that you say that about your experience with the Seroquel, that is pretty much what happened to me with the Zyprexa, cause like I said I only took it for 2 or 3 days and the hypomania didnt really kick in until a few days later, when it was wearing off. Wonder what that means.. anyway, thanks for the ideas..!
