Hi slightly silly sar,

I believe that 5mg tablets of valium are yellow.

Glad, you are using your time well :-)
I hope that you are feeling better?

Yes, I think Mother's Little Helper was valium. What would it be now? ;)

That was before my hayday..
Any idea what drug Huey Lewis was clompaining
about in "I wanna new drug". I listened to the
lyrics closely and laughed at all the side effects
he mentioned. I wonder if he was talking about
anti-depressants at the time.

I looked up the lyrics real quick for ya John. I believe the closest drug to what the song describes is GHB.

His requirements were:
-won't make him nervous
-won't make him feel bad or too good
-won't make him crash his car
-doesn't come in a pill or cost too much
-won't make him stay up all night or sleep all day
-won't make him talk to much
-won't make his face break out
-won't make him sick
-won't make him feel 3 feet thick
-won't make him crash his car
-won't make his head hurt, eyes turn red, mouth too dry
-one that won't go away
That which is stressed most repeatedly is that he wants a new drug that will make him "feel like I feel when I'm with you (assumed romantic interest)"

With the exception of the part about not going away, I believe GHB in small repeated doses throughout the day on an empty stomach (impossible to do all day since you have to eat sometime) fulfill his requirement the closest. Antidepressants don't really make you feel like you're in love...and they can keep you up all night or make you nervous. It could make you crash your car, but at a dosage that would be too high to be comfortable. I imagine some could also argue low dose ecstacy, but I believe this is very expensive and and might make you feel too good (and damage your brain!). So in conclusion, I believe the closest substance we have to Mr. Lewis's requests is steady dose ghb

After this post, the obvious abundance of time I have on my hands will probably drive some board members to wish I did have a job.

Yeah, I just love Mick Jagger, what a cool guy - did you see him on the VH1 concert for New York City? He's 60 or around that age! And still shaking his little skinny booty. Yowza! Gotta love him.

Whereas, I saw the Michael Jackson concert last night (snippets in between "Philly") and just thought, god, he's had so much surgery and botox, he can't even move his face into an expression. The skin is drawn up around his eyes and to the back of his head. And of course the nose job. What a mistake. Why couldn't he keep his black-man nose, he was a DOLL! I saw him when he first went on TV in the '60s, like the Ed Sullivan show, with his brothers, the Jackson 5, we loved him, loved the music, loved the dancing. And now he can't dance as well as before either, he's out of practice I guess.

ANYWAY! (had to get that off my chest!)
I think they still do prescribe Valium, there have been some discussions on the PB board where people mention it as part of their regimen. You can do a search... I have a friend of a friend who has been on it for 30 years. The doctor just keeps giving him the prescription, he's an older gentleman, he lives on a sheep farm, he's not bothering anybody. Sometimes he even SHARES the 'Vitamin V' as we call it. It's a nice high, makes you mellow, just like the other benzos, but in a slightly different way. It's not long-lasting like the Klonopin, not short and jabby like Xanax. I used to have a teacher who was on it when I was in high school, she would give me some (not at school, mind you... I babysat for her kids really often) when I had symptoms of the world speeding up, like everything was happening super-fast around me... I now know this was the BP II, even back then. She knew something was wrong, so she would give me some to calm down, and it did, very well. She was on it for anxiety and insomnia...

Any more pop culture/drug questions? Next discussion: Grace Slick's song 'White Rabbit' (reference to Carroll's Alice in Wonderland) "one pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small..." The last line: "Feed your head," became the anthem of Haight-Ashbury hippie-radical-druggie-peaceniks everywhere.

Alice in drug-land...

love ya,
Wendy

well. i think they should prescribe it.

"vitamin V," that's so funny...have you ever read the Armistead Maupin books? when the rich women turn 60 they go to a special retreat and are fed "vitamin Q" all the time...they don't know they're quualudes... :)

re: Mick Jagger. i've been having a long-lasting argument with the boyfr...i say Mick was hot, just incredible, he says no, he has those silly lips and is Steven Tyler's twin and i say "ugh! steven tyler is *ugly.*" he says tyler can't be ugly because he is jagger's doppleganger.

michael jackson is weird. he is too weird for me, even. he looks like he came out of some bizarre goth doll factory...he *was* cute back in the day...i read that he's just so insecure, like that's why he hangs out with animals and children, 'cos they can't hurt ya...

mmm...pop culture and drugs. "sweetest perfection" by depeche mode...what other than heroin?

love the grace slick song, but i thought it was about acid...?

the rolling stones and age: i read in the paper that one of the members recently turned 65, so in England he now qualifies for a senior citizen bus pass. he quit the band 8 years ago, can't remember his name...

I think this would be a good time to redirect further follow-ups to Psycho-Social-Babble, thanks. :-)
