I'm looking for a new drug for Social Phobia. I've tried
Paxil, Prozac, Celexa and countless MAOI's. Most didn't work and almost all of them gave me unbearable side-effects. Is there something my doc has missed? Thanks

Is there something my doc has missed?Search back to postings made around August 17 under the tile 'Social Anxiety'. You will find people describing goods results obtained from gabapentin and/or klonopin.

I'm trying it now for mood swings, but I must say
it has made my interactions with other people
much easier even though I don't consider myself
particularly socially phobic.Anyway, Neurontin is not exactly side-effect
free. Mostly drowsiness, dizziness, and
a certain dulling of the brain. In theory these
side effects are supposed to go away after a
few weeks.Sean

("Countless MAOI's?" There aren't *that* many of them.)
I agree with what's been said - a benzodiazepine or Neurontin seems like the thing to try. Also consider a change of diagnosis.
Other antidepressants, like Effexor and Serzone, may work as well. Buspar is something to try too, but be willing to go pretty high (e.g., up to 90mg) on the dose. If your doctor will go for it and you can tolerate the side effects, an opioid such as buprenorphine could work very well.
Group cognitive-behavioral therapy has been said to help with social phobia. I don't know enough to comment on it, but I just thought I'd pass it on.
This is the end of the thread.
