Makeshirft Over, a poem from Poet

Posted by Poet on June 7, 2005, at 20:46:38

Makeshift Over

The makeover artist (so the sign said)
shook her head
you will not do, no indeed, not you.
I’ll have to put in overtime to right what’s wrong.
We’ll rehearse and rehearse your dance
or no invitation for you.
The kingdom demands new subjects.
I risk beheading,
my client list is down.
Big heaving sigh,
I must take you on,
though you are so completely wrong.
I didn’t realize there was so much to cover.
Lengthen your legs.
Remove that hair.
Dress you up fine.
Teach you all the right moves.
How to say everything that pleases.
You will learn to be who you aren’t,
perfection no one can truly be.
You can revert back into a squash
after they’ve examined you
bottom to front
and paid me my finders fee.
We’re not done yet.
You can’t leave now.
Promise to recommend me?
Why did you rip up my card?
