Also, I teach at a state university where many of my students are in their mid-20s to early 30s. I have taught through a few elections and never really talked about them in class. But this time, when I went in to all three of my Wednesday classes, students asked - can we talk about this first? So I let them talk for 30 minutes of the (50 minute) class.
Muslim students and Hispanic students are worried and scared. Many others are worried about losing their health insurance. And on and on. Of course, I live and work in MA, so people feel very differently here, apparently, than in the rest of the country.
