What you describe is normal for any coast. On the Oregon Coast we had roofs, fences, and even people, blown away, yet never once did they call it a hurricane.

On the gulf coast it's called a hurricane, in Oregon, high winds. Never mind that the high winds blew tourists clean out of hotel rooms - the national weather service never called it a hurricane. I was in Seaside Oregon when a woman was blown off her motel balcony and it was never called a hurricane.

You can insult my family but don't exaggerate about the weather.
