Nearly literally.
Apparently my house is at that age where everything decides to break at once. I'm not sure why this should be so, since over the years my husband jokes that we have replaced so many parts that the house we live in now merely occupies the same space as the original house.
Sigh. It's not just the inconvenience or the money, though that is certainly bad enough and darn scary in today's economy. But my husband gets so tense and brittle that I worry that he'll have a coronary. And my son and I both tend to find negative emotions contagious. His tension and anxiety and anger isn't staying in his own body. It's leaking out everywhere, even if he doesn't say anything or do anything.
If I didn't know better, I'd be tempted to slip a Klonopin in his orange juice.
I'm a master worrier and prone to anxiety attacks myself. But there's no way to do anything about this other than to call the repair people.
