I'm so stupid

Posted by TexasChic on October 17, 2008, at 8:42:05

Today I called into work because my gas tank was on E and my bank account overdrawn. I couldn't even get a check to go through at 7-11. So I called and talked with the boss and told him I had a personal emergency and I needed to take the day off. He said, "The whole day?" I said, "Yes, and I really do apologize, I wouldn't ask if it wasn't an emergency." He just said, "Okay." Afterwards I realized I could have told him I was having car trouble, and they would have probably had someone come by and get me. I thought about calling back, but I was too embarrassed. I just hope this won't jepordize my job. I mean, surely they wouldn't hold it against me if I'm doing a good job (and I am). And after three weeks of training, surely they wouldn't want to start all over with someone new, right? Somebody please give me some reassurance! This was really hard for me because I have such a hard time standing up to people. I had to practice several times saying "I need to take the day off" rather than, "Can I take the day off" before I called. I guess I would feel better if there were a real emergency. I just couldn't think of any other way to phrase it. I could have said I was sick, but I was trying not to lie. I guess all I can do is keep on going and hope for the best. I don't know, what do yall think?
