Hi, all! I am the moderator of an abused survivor's group. I don't have a degree/license, but I DO have a lifetime of experience at emotional (physical and other kinds of) abuse, and 10 years of research.
Every now and then someone from the group wants to speak with me and pay me. I don't take the money, but now I am financially embarrassed (big-time) panic city.....
I returned to school last fall, and recently won a scholarship (I was 1 in 10 of 1,600 applicants in the U.S. and Canada); amazed me by golly gee-whiz; piece a cake, though; all I had to do was write my life story.
I am considering setting up a web page to counsel abused women, and of course make it clear that I don't have a license. I realize anyone can put ANYthing on the internet, but it is my intention to be authentic and honest about who I am, and what I do.
I was published with the Ph.D.'s: www.psychiatricjournal.com, entitled: The Transcendent Child on Overcoming Verbal and Spiritual Abuse
My own site: www.churchabusepoetrytherapy.com (kicked out of church 'cause I got a divorce after 31 years of abuse).
Thinking of doing this (website) makes me a little nervous. Just wanted to throw this out there for any comments and hopefully....encouragement?!
P.S. I attended the American Counseling Association's Conference a few months ago and was appalled to see that in over 500 presentations, there was nothing on emotional abuse (affecting 1 in 3 women; an outrage and terrible tragedy in our society), and was urged by the executive director to submit my paper on verbal abuse for next year's conference. I will know in August if it has been accepted.
Hugs, Sassy
