FYI, use of the word "Democrat" as anything other than a noun (meaning a person who is a member of or identifies with the Democratic party) is, in the US, frequently used as a mild slur by conservatives. Google "democrat versus democratic" and you should see what I mean.
I do know, of course, that you had no intention whatsoever of slipping into that...
Other US territories have held Democratic primaries - American Samoa, Guam... The parties are largely free to set the rules for determining their nominees, and there are significant differences, one of which is how they handle territories. Overall, I think the Republican rules resemble the way the November election more closely than the Demoracts' system.
