Yeah, it does sound simple. Why don't you just do it?

OH YEAH! Because it doesn't work!

You know how some things sound so simple, but aren't? This is one of them. Weight is moderated by some very sophisticated systems in our bodies -- so much so, that no one really knows how it all works. What is known, though, is that "3500 calories in equals one pound, so 3500 calories out must equal one pound" does not work. Basically, when you try to lose weight, the first thing that happens for most people is that your metabolism slows down, because your body figures that you're in a famine, so it better conserve everything.

In fact, during my treatment, there was a period I started eating for real -- and lost weight. Even a lot of doctors wouldn't believe that I'd really been eating, but I was. It's just that my metabolism had kicked up again -- "Gee, there's food now, no more famine..."

Weight is a very complex issue. And you know that whole "x thousands of people die from obesity" thing? Not true. VERY few, if any, deaths are actually a result of obesity -- the statistics were skewed.

TC, I don't know you well, we don't interact, but you know what? Some of the most beautiful women I've ever known have been heavy. And many of them were not nearly as beautiful when they lost weight. There are many, many women I see who are even larger than I experience myself as being -- whom I envy for their gorgeous bodies. (One of those gorgeous women posts here, and was afraid of sending me a picture. She's stunning, and really oughta know that by now. She's also well loved, as she should be. And she dang well better know who she is!)

Your co-worker will never win the title Queen of Tact. And she may very well be jealous.

People say stupid things about weight. Hell, I had a woman stop me on the street to tell me I shouldn't go out looking like that, because I was just too thin, and really looked awful, so I needed to gain weight! Some stranger on the street! Maybe she meant well, maybe she thought she was "helping" somehow, that what she said would somehow cure my anorexia. Who knows.

Hell, my own aunt took it upon herself to tell me I was anorexic! Um... I'd figured that out?

Put it down to "some people's feet jsut dart into their mouths..." and let it go at that.

Oh, yeah -- and make her make coffee in that sludgy pot for eternity.
