Good job! I'm married to a recovering alcoholic who will have 8 years of sobriety in Sept. He went to AA which for him seemed to work best. But, as they say in AA, don't argue with the method of recovery, so every one will have their own experience.
We have learned since he sobered up that there were many influential biological factors going on that were not recognized and that were contributing factors (big time, I would say) but there are all the other elements that one learns about in AA too - spiritual (and that means different things to different people) is a biggie.
It's a complex picture but well worth working through and you're on the right path. Keep going - one day at a time!

Using alcohol and drugs to mask and self medicate mental illness is just not a good look. I had no idea that I was depressed, anxious and socially phobic at the age of 17. So booze became my best friend and worst nightmare at the same time. I hope anyone else out there doing what I have done can gain some hope and get proactive, there is so much support available, you just have to ask, peace peoples!!!
