Apartments are tricky. I mean people have a right to do what they want in their own home, but -wow- what if it that affects the people around them.

But I do think you are right to try to reach a solution that will make you more comfortable.

I did run into a situation similar to this with a neighbor and we did get it resolved.

I smoke. So I was just happily smoking away in my apartment and had no idea that the smoke was seeping into the apartment above me.

My neighbor finally came down and told me, but only after her anger had reached a fevered pitch.

Keep in mind I had no idea that this was happening. I wish she had told me sooner!

The way we resolved it was that we split the cost for air purifiers, filters and other techniques to keep the air in both of our apartments clear.

We just worked in the situation we had, and both of us got what we wanted.

So, have a few sips of wine, come up with a solution that would work for you both and try to catch him when he isn't high.

People are much more willing to work with you if you don't just say "I have a problem with you and what are you going to do about it".
