i don't think they can tell who visits unless you leave a comment or message. But even if they can, you can control how much they know about you. I have a MySpace profile for the sole purpose of being able to see more of other people's MySpace pages, and you wouldn't know it was me from my profile because I didn't use it to tell all about myself.
So just set up a very cryptic profile and satsify your curiosity!
(Do MySpace users have access to visitors' IP addresses? I'd be surprised if they did. And that's the likeliest way I can imagine they could gain any information without your knowing, assuming reasonable caution with your browser's privacy settings.)
