dim question about myspace

Posted by laima on January 27, 2007, at 7:54:24

Ok. Lots of people I know have myspace pages, and I don't. So, if I go to the myspace website and look at their pages, from my home computer, does that mean they can tell I (me, personally) was looking? I'd rather look anonymously, but I heard that people can tell who looks at their pages. These are all adults with pages full of their writing, artwork, etc, by the way. Former classmates of mine, and my curiousity is going nuts.

Thanks.

i don't think they can tell who visits unless you leave a comment or message. But even if they can, you can control how much they know about you. I have a MySpace profile for the sole purpose of being able to see more of other people's MySpace pages, and you wouldn't know it was me from my profile because I didn't use it to tell all about myself.

So just set up a very cryptic profile and satsify your curiosity!

(Do MySpace users have access to visitors' IP addresses? I'd be surprised if they did. And that's the likeliest way I can imagine they could gain any information without your knowing, assuming reasonable caution with your browser's privacy settings.)

Heard a lot of teens use MY Space. My oldest Daughter often goes there to check on her youth group. Love Phillipa ps don't think anyone knows if you're looking.

Thanks for the info. Phillipa, some adults use it too! You can hardly imagine then, how badly I want to spy up on my friends and aquaintences who are on there using it, to figure out what on earth they are up to. What classes are they planning on teaching, what did they think of the movie, the party I missed, what do they REALLY think of people's art projects, etc. Not to mention I could stand to learn more gossip-tired of always being the last to know, you know? So I heard that if one IS a member of myspace, they can indeed tell if you visited their page. I heard if one is NOT registered with myspace, they can't tell. But I'm such a chicken I've been afraid to risk. It sounds like if I come up with some sort of Snooper's profile, I get to see more- and still stay anonymous? Then guessing the identity of the mysterious Snooper will be the talk of the town around here, with my luck. But regardless, sounds like I can start snooping anonymously with confidence? Thanks again!

Laima I signed up and didn't post a pic or anything so did my oldest Daughter and for some reason it shows up as both of us unmarried. And no if you visit a page they don't know you were there. Just don't post to them. My youngest is going through a divorce and her ex is on there. We've all looked him up. He doesn't know. Love Phllipa

I ran across this link to something that's supposed to let MySpace users figure out who has looked at their page:

http://www.stalkertrack.com/super/

It claims:

"What this code will do: Track viewers who viewed your page and give you their: Picture, Username, Link to their page, and when (date) they viewed your page!"

So I think it's even clearer to me than before that nobody can find out more about you than what you put in your MySpace profile.

Sounds great! I will snoop away, and no longer be the last to know the local gossip and goings on. This evening I'll take a look, and enlighten myself. Thanks so much!

That's what makes myspace sometimes become an obsession, you can snoop to your hearts content. You can find out things you don't want to now though.

I did sign up for one of the tracker things though, so I'll tell yall if it works. I'm a little sceptical.

This is really cool. I think its a relatively new thing (its new to me anyway). It looks like basically it gives you a link to the myspace page of the person who looked at it. So if your page doesn't reveal anything about you I think you would remain anonymous. At least until someone discovers a way around THAT! But as of now I don't think anyone can get to your personal info on myspace.

The age-old question... and I have your answer.

NO- no one can tell who is visiting their pages- no matter if you are a member or not. There is a spam message that is sent around myspace that says if you put a certain code on your page, you can see who views your profile- but it's in fact spam and the code is actually a way for people to steal passwords.

The only way anyone knows if someone was on their page (a specific person) is if you leave a comment or message- which you have to be a member to do... and you have to be their friend (to boot) to be able to leave a comment)

It's a folklore that anyone can tell who's actually looking at their page. Myspace has made it so that there is no internal IP address, meaning there is no "footprint" when you visit a page.

This leads to a lot of spying. Hahaha

There is no way that a member that has a page can see who, specifically see their page. They do have a visit counter- which only tells them how many people have looked at their page, but not WHO looked.

And there is a "urband legend" on myspace that you can install a profile viewer and see who is looking at your page- but, that is actually a trojan horse that people end up installing in their profile (a piece of CSS/HTML code that they put in their profile) and it ends up allowing hackers into your account.

That's actually a trojan horse- a virus that people end up installing in their profile that allows hackers to get your information- but since people want to so badly see who's viewing them, they try it anyways.

Just a warning- there is NO way to track who views your profiles- it's allll spam/viruses...

Macs don't get viruses. But I don't believe its a virus anyway, there's several different company's out there doing the tracking thing. And the biggest hoaxes out there are about viruses.

The real question is if it can provide the link of a viewer who's not a member of that particular tracking system. I've yet to get any hits (I don't get too many anyway) so it may take awhile to figure that out. I think that may be the catch though. I'll keep yall posted.

Not a virus that infects your computer- it's a way that hackers can get your account information... post bulletins under your name, takes your password, plays with your profile, etc.

Actually, the first ever virus was for a Mac. There are a few Mac virus's out there, its just te vast majority are for windows platforms, as thats what the vast majority of epople use.

You should still be using some form of vorus protection on a mac.. they also get spyware too remember, which can cause almost as many problems.

And, as an aside, before getting aspyware blocker, I would be infected the moment I visited myspace.

Oh great! I have a mac, and I spied on all my friends last night.
No strangers... If I always get the security updates Apple/Mac sends me, am I alright? How would I know? I am going now, to clean out al my cookies and history.
