I used to be TERRIFIED of elevators when I was younger (early 90s) before most people had cellphones.
But not so much anymore. I'll skip riding in an old elevator still, but overall I don't worry much anymore. At worst, I'm in for a hour or so wait until the firemen get here and let me out. No big deal.
