Barbaro

I cried this morning, seeing his jockey on television, hugging another fellow. And watching that poor colt curvet around as they tried to unsaddle him -- just heartwrenching.

Thoroughbreds are strange critters, and I guess we could all see how hard it was for Edgar Prado to pull him up when it happened. TBs just don't want to stop, once that adrenaline hits. And he's just a baby -- his bones won't finish developing until he's five, and he's only three now.

I guess this will show how young I'm not, but it took me right back to Ruffian. My lord, what a beautiful filly she was! What a damned shame.

Sorry -- musing out loud. Or grieving.

(Although, honestly, I don't like his face. There's something about that bulge between his eyes that I've never liked in TBs. {shrug} Chacun à son goût.)

(And he's got some nice horses in his background -- Nearco, Royal Charger -- I've had two horses going back to these two, and they've been my favorites of all the horses I've known -- Nasrullah, through Nashua; Native Dancer; Princequillo; Hail to Reason. Nice horses there.)
