Although being retired AF I wouldn't know for certain, I'd take an educated guess the type of training alesta mentioned might be done at Ft. Leonard Wood, over in south central MO...I think the nearby community is St. Robert. It's in the Ozarks and is a base that does a lot of basic army training courses, etc. I used to deal with the small AF units that are located their to support the Army's mission quite often when I was still on AD.
Unlikely any AIT (infantry, I'm pretty sure) would be done at Whiteman as it's an Air Force base, as you said :-)
And I really need to get over and visit KC one day. So close, yet I've not made the trip yet. I think the same about St. Louis - it has the smallest town feel of any major city I've ever lived near or visited, and that's been a good many....
and you know, I'm STILL - after living just a few miles across the river from MO for over 4 years - waiting to meet a toothless, drunken hillbilly!! Dang, just can't find one! Maybe I'll have the pleasure one day, kid.... ;-)
