Jury Duty

Posted by fallsfall on April 26, 2005, at 11:55:28

Well, I have been selected for Jury Duty. I'm supposed to report on 4 Mondays to find out if I'm assigned to cases for that week. I am on Jury Duty for a whole month. But, except for the Mondays only have to be there if I have been selected for a particular trial.

This court handles civil and criminal cases - divorce, custody, plus robbery etc.

I really want to do this. I've always wanted to be on a jury. I think it is really important.

But can I do it? I'm disabled for a reason. Will I be able to concentrate and process information? Will I be able to remember things? Will I be flexible enough to be willing to change my mind if warranted?

What will happen to my therapy? My therapist doesn't have office hours outside of 8 - 5 MTTF. I can't go a month without therapy.

There are questions on the form that ask:

Do you have a physical or mental disability which might affect your ability to render satisfactory jury service?

Are you asking ot be excused from jury service because of the disability?

If not, what accomodations would you need to render satsifactory jury service?

Has anyone done jury duty? What accomondations could I request?

Time for therapy 1/week minimum? How can this be set up? They say they get out at 4. Would my therapist do a 5PM once a week during that month? Or could I do an 8AM therapy and get to court by 10 (and could I do the court thing right after therapy??)
Permission to take notes?
Not too long trials (what is too long?)?

How predicatable is the schedule? Will I know if I can make my Thursday AM appointment with any accuracy on Monday? Or my Friday AM appointment? Do I ask him to hold the appointments for me and end up paying for them if I'm busy on the jury?
