In reply to Happy F'ng Birthday To Me!!!, posted by Angel Girl on December 10, 2004, at 21:28:04
Well, my husband remembered. But everyone else including my mother who went through labor to have me plumb forgot. I don't like to make a fuss about my birthday, and didn't want presents. But a "Happy Birthday, Dinah" would have been fine. My son didn't even draw me a card.
I'm not someone who expects other people to remember on their own, either. I had (as usual) mentioned my upcoming birthday to everyone as it approached.
But I don't think it means they don't love me. It stung a bit, but I know they just got involved and forgot. It happens. So I called my mother up and reminded her (and thanked her for giving me life 43 years ago). And she reminded my father who called me up and was amazingly sweet. Horrid person that I am, I already forgot what incredibly sweet thing he said, but I'll never forget that he was incredibly sweet to me. And my son loves me to pieces. He just isn't someone who remembers to do thoughtful things without prompting yet. I'm sure he will eventually - after he's prompted enough.
So - HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I hope this next year will be a terrific one for you.
And which of your family is the nicest? Why don't you call them and give them a very polite reminder that today is your birthday. There might be people who aren't so good at remembering but that who still will respond wonderfully if reminded.
