I went to this man for HELP last year when I was facing possible cancer, recovering from several respiratory problems, and dealing with a problem at work due to my illness at the time. I "graduated" as a "[xxx] Girl" (weird I know) within like 3 months but was still on what I considered heavy doses of Effexor (225 mg) and 1--200 mg of Trazadone.
Please note...I NEVER RESCHEDULED OR MISSED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THIS GUY IN THE PAST... ISSUES???? NOT ME THIS TIME!Here is my story=== you decide if you should continue or start seeing this "doctor".

The history of what happened….
On 11/3/04 the secretary for Dr. [xxx] called to confirm my appointment. She left a message and I called her back around 7:00 PM. I told her that I had been sick and on RX for a bad cold (and they know all my health history with pneumonia, mostly the reason I went to him in the first place etc) and that I had to see my pulmonologist for an appointment I had. She was frustrated, but said I could come later that day OR reschedule for the following Thursday.Dr. [xxx] is only [here] on Thursdays, but I would be willing to go elsewhere if needed.
So I went to my appointment with Cohen and forgot to call [xxx] that night… I WAS SICK!
I called [xxx] on Saturday morning around 10:50 AM thinking I’d leave a message. He answered and when I told him why I had to reschedule he said, “I don’t play second fiddle to anyone.” I explained that I didn’t feel he was playing 2nd fiddle, but that my respiratory issues were the first priority being that I was sick (bronchitis---AND my susceptibility to pneumonia…seeing Cohen for my scheduled appointment was critical). [xxx] then said he’d call me back for an appointment.
He called at 12:00 PM today and said “The ONLY available appointment I have is at 4PM this Thursday. You can’t come any other time.” I explained that I would have to come later since I had an ESOL class. He told me, “This is THE ONLY time you can come. If you don’t come I will close your case out and I won’t call you in any orders.” I told him that I had to take the class for recertification. He said, “I don’t care what you need. I will not be 2nd.” I asked if I could come the following Thursday and he said NO. I said, “Why are you treating me with such indignation?” He said, “YOU are being rude.” I replied, “I am not being rude. I’m asking my psychiatrist for an appointment.” He kept talking over me and said “Either you take the appointment or I will close your case. What do you want?” I said that I want to wean off the medication and that he is responsible for helping his patient. He talked over me once again and said, “Either you come at 4 or you’re closed. What do you want?” I said, “I would never want to come near someone that treats me with such disrespect so I guess close me out, but you are responsible for weaning me off this medication…..” he hung up in that mid sentence.
I immediately panicked thinking I would become sick since I only have 2 days left of Effexor. I don’t want more….I want OFF OF THE STUFF ANYWAY!
I am shaking as I am writing this…how could a PSYCHIATRIST treat a patient with such disregard? Does he think he can do that to someone and not be responsible for them?
I called David from Cohen’s office and told him what happened and he said THEY will help me wean off the meds. I am to go in on Monday and get samples.
Anyway, this is my account and he was DEAD WRONG and I am calling FL First tomorrow and filing a formal complaint.
WHY would a psychiatrist refuse to see a patient other than the ONE day and ONE time? Then hang up and not make sure you get them off the meds if that's what they requested? And why brow-beat a patient when all she asked was to reschedule two weeks later (and it's been 3 months since she saw the "doctor" in the first place!?_)
HOnestly, I don't know why he did this, but I refuse to allow someone to treat a patient like that or hurt any other potential or current patients again. We go to these people for help and this is what they do!???? If I treated a student with half of the disrespect and used the severe tone and refusal to help like he did I would be fired and my certification would be revoked... and the student's life isn't threatened by me either...he basically left me cold turkey and refused to help me cuz "he was playing second fiddle".
