http://www.hoberman.com/fold/main/index.htmnow i'm a mathematician by training and i was taking graph theory when i got this toy. depending on how you visualize this toy, it's a 4-regular planar graph on 10 vertices. when you visualize it that way, you can draw a diagram of all the lines on a flat piece of paper in such a way that the lines never cross each other. now that is cool :)
i was also a raver at the time, and i would take this toy to raves and stick it on the heads of people trippin on ecstasy. "it's like an alien helmet eating your brain, man" </stoner>
you can also fit a whole baby inside a big one of those. they like the whole big-small-big-small of it
so hoberman sphere!
ps - when i was in school i was also known to hang a rubber chicken on those hooks. but it dries out the little plastic nubs on the chicken mouths; you'll need a new chicken in a year or so.
