Mystic,

I am so sorry that you have abuse in your background. I pray the therapy helps.

I am on 150mg Wellbutrin XL (and 1mg Xanax at bedtime as needed for sleep). I was up to 20-30mg Lexapro and it just wasn't working for me. So my doctor had me stop the Lex (didn't titrate down) and start the 150mg Wellbutrin on the same day. I was sooooo scared - afraid of Lex withdrawals, afraid of trying a new drug with a whole new set of side effects, wondering if the Wellbutrin was going to just lead down another blind alley... But really it went reasonably well. The worst "symptom", and basically the only one, was insomnia. I slept very little the first couple of nights. Thank God for Xanax and benedryl which got me through. I felt better on several levels almost immediately. The "zombie" feeling was immediately gone. It took a while for my memory to come back to (almost) normal though - maybe a couple of months. Now I feel almost "normal" again. There are occasional times I have to deal with some mild depression or anxiety, but it doesn't happen often.

I was worried about Wellbutrin and anxiety too. But after the first couple of days, I was OK. But I don't really remember feeling like I was going to have a panic attack. It was more like the feeling of one cup too much coffee. A word of caution is that it seems that Wellbutrin magnifies the effect of caffeine and alcohol, and it seems to take longer for them to leave the system. So I wouldn't advise coffee, Sudafed, diet pills or alcoholic beverages.

You might want to check with Lexy. I think she had a bad experience with Wellbutrin. But then we are all so different, and these drugs are all trial-and-error until we find something that helps.

God bless,

Simus
