> Well, welcome home (almost). I wish I could stay here but just can't afford anything in a good neighborhood. Even in Concord, you can't get a house for less than $350,000. And that's considered cheap! Have you found a place to live yet? It's a really good renter's market now since the dot.coms have left town.

I wonder how *anybody* can afford to buy a house in SF that's bigger than a breadbox. We're planning to rent.

You're right, it's really easy to find a place these days if you have a steady job. My husband's living in a nice furnished studio apt. in Ashbury Heights. I got it for him while I was there in summer. He can take the N-Judah right to work.

On Monday morning my daughter's flying out to live with him. He's going to swap his studio for his neighbor's one bedroom or move into another unit owned by the same landlord. The girl will have to sleep on the couch for a few months.

The rest of us (me, my 13 yr. old son, and 2 cats) aren't moving until June. We've got some time.

> I've never been to DC but my boyfriend went to Howard and lived off campus and said he was scared to death every time he walked down the street. Granted, he didn't live in a very good neighborhood and any city has those, but wasn't it the murder capital for a while? Of course, Oakland might have taken that title over in the last couple of years.

We're actually 2 blocks outside the District, in Maryland. Much of Washington is scary. Other parts are very very nice.

I think Chicago bears the honor of being the Murder Capital, but Washington's got to be up there.

> Good luck with your move. I can't imagine moving across the country with kids! Unless they're old enough to help I guess. Boy, I can't wait until Rosalie can do chores!
>
I can barely get the kids to do anything. Part of it is that I've been depressed for much of their lives and can hardly bring *myself* to do anything.

My husband's company is paying for the move. Even so, I'm stressed out by having to get everything ready. All I've done so far is gotten rid of some of the old clothes and books. I've been sick and deeply depressed, so a good day means I get dinner on the table.

> Well, I'm going to pop a Trazadone and try to end this week with a good night's sleep. Here's wishing Rosie sleeps until at least 7:30 tomorrow. . . Did I just jinx myself?

Ahhh, sleep.
