At my house growing up, we would cook for days. Even though there were only the three, later four, of us. About six really complicated dishes, plus the turkey and canned cranberry sauce. We'd freeze the extras and serve them for months after. And I hated every single dish, except the turky and rolls if we had them. As an almost adult I added a crab dish that I actually liked. :)

So when I got married, and we were dividing up holidays this was a no brainer. Christmas dinner with my family (roast beast and yorkshire pudding), Thanksgiving dinner at his. My brother left home around the same time, and my parents discoved the restaurants that served part of what they liked to eat.

My husband's family is completely the opposite. Except for the canned cranberry sauce, it could be any Sunday dinner of the year. Turkey, canned and frozen vegetables, a roll, and *maybe* some home-made macaroni and cheese. You're not bustin' full when you get up from the table. It doesn't take days to get over the Thanksgiving hangover. I like it.

But being the perverse creatures we are I sometimes feel sorry for my son. Those days of chopping veggies and arguing on the proper way to do any and every thing were, in my memory, fond bonding experiences. I have a lousy memory. :)
