Hi Babs,
> Help! I gained 60 pounds on risperdal and it makes me eat a lot.
ditto, but with depakote.
>But the worst part of it is I have no motivation to exercise.
likewise.
>How do you all get motivated to exercise.
1. have my therapist nag me.
2. have my pdoc nag me.
3. have my mdoc nag me.
4. get tired of shopping for ever larger shirts & pants before the old ones even show wear.
5. friends & coworkers tell me I look like I have been gaining weight.(note: my wife never nagged me)
and finally (this is a long story):
I went to Slovenia in the former Yugoslavia in Sept 2001 for a vacation. Since the people I stayed with spoke very little English, they had a 20-year-old college girl stay over for a couple of nights to translate & make sure I was getting along OK. Having never visited the US, she had a million questions about everything. She asked me if everyone is really fat in the US. I said, yes, pretty much. (note that nearly all Slovene women are thin). Well, I am returning to Slovenia this summer, and I am sure I will meet the same college girl. The last thing I want is for her to look at me and tell me *I* got *fat* in just 2 years.
So...
Here is my exercise plan:
Mornings:
1. sit-ups and push-ups, usually 60 each. I do them until I can't do another.
2. lay flat on the floor on my back with arms out-stretched. Lift 5-lb (2 Kg) dumbells keeping my arms straight and my hands meeting over my chest. I do this 100 times.
3. repeat 2, but bend my arms at the elbows.
4. repeat 1, doing as many more sit-ups and push-ups as I can.Noon (before lunch):
1. I work in a 2-story building, so I walk stairs up & down. I am currently doing 30 round-trips of 28 steps each in 15 minutes.
2. Cool off from the stairs with a 1 mile walk.Evening:
1. Repeat the sit-ups and push-ups during commercial breaks when I am watching television. I use it as my penalty for numbing my brain.
I haven't lost any weight, but I have stopped gaining. :-)Ted
