Law and Order and Mental Illness--Judy

Posted by noa on February 10, 2003, at 17:10:37

They are leaving it a little bit mysterious, no? He definitely mentioned his mother, and I think this is the first time I actually heard him say something specific about his mother's illness, and I took "roommate" at whatever the name of the place he mentioned was, to mean she had been or is in some kind of hospital or residential facility.

He is very quirky and brilliant, with some very amusing sort of oddball interests. So, it could also be that he has bipolar, too. Who knows? Of course, we don't see much of his character in relationships, so there is a lot we don't know about him.

With whom do you think he was speaking on the phone and where do you think he was going afterward? Eames told the captain, "don't ask". I was thinking that maybe he was talking to his mother? Or perhaps his own shrink? If the latter, maybe the "don't ask" is more than just a casual comment---ie could it be hinting at a sort of "don't ask, don't tell" culture in the force about mental illness?

My guess is that is was his mother he spoke to and went to visit, but the way they left that kind of open makes me wonder. I wonder if they will come back to this story line.

What do you think?
