In reply to Info on seeing a Mood Disorder Specialist???, posted by Mikey_C on February 5, 2003, at 13:24:29
Hi there, I've never heard of a mood disorder specialist, is that just an experienced psychiatrist? Please keep in mind that even the best doctor can only offer a trial and error approach to management for mood disorders. There is no best medication since what works for one person might not work for you. Even when you find meds that work well, they can quit working over time. You might get lucky with one or two meds, or it can take many visits and trials of combinations of meds and tweaking the dosage. Because of that, the best doctor is one you're comfortable working with over time. It's sad but true. I don't mean to put it harshly, but I wish someone had explained this to me when I started out. You're more likely to get a good result with the doctor if your expectations are realistic. Good luck.
