Same thing hapened to me once. Go to your insurance company ASAP and give them the letter from the lawyer and have them examine your car. The problem is that this is probably too late for any action on their part. In any case, your insurance company is there exactly for these situations.
(In my case, I went to the insurance company right after the accident, they took photos, and we did nothing until we heard from the other party, who was of course uninsured. They sued for a couple million dollars for gross bodily injury. My insurance company settled for $499.00 on each of two claims. I have had no change in rates or other effects, and this was 14 years ago.)
