I have seen a performance (on TV) of a throat singer (his picture is on the front page of the 2nd link below, but I don't know his name) with Bela Fleck (and the Flecktones (sp?)), a progressive musician who has his roots in the banjo and bluegrass music. Now Bela's music is funky, new-age-ish- not like bluegrass at all. The whole concert was very interesting and entertaining. I really admire good musicians, no matter what genre they perform. But I can't say I have been *into* the throat singing bit. I like it, but I don't think I need a whole CD of it. But maybe I haven't given it adequate research... Thanks for bringing it up!!

It was an account of a great blues player called Paul Pena from San Francisco who travelled to Tuva, a small country in Siberia where he joined in a singing competition of Tuvan throat singers. It's a unique singing style that has been carried on for centuries in their culture. In the competition, Paul combined his bluesy style with their throat singing. It was amazing! I love blues & I really appreciate throat singing & to see the two combined was a musical feast.
