I'm not much help, having no favor with the sleep goddess myself, but somewhere recently I read this: instead of counting bouncy perky sheep jumping over the fence, you should count sheep sleeping peacefully in the meadow, as you float slowly above. At least it's a pleasant thing to visualize while not sleeping.
