My p-doc used to say that he lent me ego strength, that I could borrow his ego and strengthen myself without diminishing him. When I started seeing him, I literally thought about him all the time and dreamed about him every night. He said this is what small children do with their parents, keep them in mind, look over thier shoulder to make sure they're watching, how they gain ego strength. I was neglected and abused as a small child and never got this, so now I was doing this with him.

Transference is a difficult thing, especially when it's as intense and obsessive as it was for me. It's difficult for T's to manage as well.

Remember that Freud's collaborator, Breuer, fled Vienna with his wife when Anna O's transference love embarassed and overwhelmed him.
