----flutterby: I was in psychoanalysis with a psychologist for more than three years...... for me it was like having a recipe but not having any of the ingredients. He would help me to "see" things I was doing and/or thinking that were dysfunctional-- but no steps to get beyond that.(and I certainly couldn't figure it out myself-- it felt to me that he expected me to have more insight than I had) I often left there feeling frustrated, confused and stuck. To move forward -- I've found CBT(cognitive behavioral therapy) work helps, I'm not "stuck" AS much...... but.... that is me and everyone is different.

I read in some forums that some people would only ever have psychoanalysis for therapy as that is what helps them most....*shrugs*..... it must be an individual thing.

If you don't feel you're making progress or it's too slow-- maybe you should look into different types of therapy.... there's so many varieties out there! no reason to spin ones wheels for too long....

good luck to you
