I think you (we) should follow our "gut" instinct(s); no matter what anyone else says or thinks, always do what feels right.
If you could see your old t and simply tell him the truth about everything and in the end, tell him...you forgive him.....
that would release YOU from the pain, and take a burden you have been carrying for so long...
