I don't have anything helpful to say. I'm too stuck on my reaction to his reply.
But, I agree that he's changed, and it's only natural for your feelings about him to change. Your lives have had a huge upheaval, and I don't know how it could ever go back to the way it was. That's not to say that it can't still be helpful and good. But it will be different. It sounds like it already is.
Now, pretend you don't see this, but I'm giving him a virtual forehead flick for his reply to you.
