Hey fairwings :-)
I don't honestly know what to tell you. But I recognise the train wreck analogy. Can't imagine the ADD helps with the thought problems. I do find that meditation really helps me slow down the 'thinking express' and just make my head a little quieter during those times when a zillion things are flying around in all directions just waiting to crash into each other. I also find that an active form works better at those times than a passive form. For some reason the inclusion of movement seems to help. The main types I use are walking meditation and various types of Tai Chi and or yoga. They also help you sleep.
My biggest problem with being 'in my head' is that I just don't engage IRL because it's all been said and done in every possible permutation and combination in my head and I always lose so I just withdraw because I know the outcome anyway. It's no way to live.
