I did tell my therapist about his desk

Posted by Dinah on March 22, 2005, at 12:42:27

He had another client related document on his desk today. So before I could think I asked him if I could tell him something that may sound critical, and when I got his ok, I told him he really ought to clean up his desk. He took that to be a general comment, so I narrowed it, and he said "Oh, you mean things like this?" and turned it over so that it wasn't visible. I told him I wouldn't like it if something of mine was lying open on his desk (in as calm and nonjudgmental tone I could manage - conversational even). He answered that I didn't need to worry because he didn't have anything like that for me.

Sigh. Sometimes he's so charmingly literal.
