Sex therapy

Posted by Dinah on September 9, 2004, at 13:15:26

Anyone have any experience?

I'm wondering if it might not be useful to have adjunct therapy in this particular area, where I am decidedly dysfunctional. But I want it strictly on my terms. At this point I want nothing but questions and answers. I don't want any homework or anything that starts with any judgemental presuppositions. I just want information.

From what I've read of sex therapy, it's a very behavior oriented field. With lots of hands on behavioral homework. I DO NOT WANT THAT. I may never want that.

I have no problem talking to my therapist about these things, but he's not an expert. Plus, I detect a distinct male bias in his attitudes. A judgemental bias that may come from some issues or experiences in his part. While I usually have no trouble discussing possible countertransference on his part, this is one area where I would be loath to suggest that he is possibly letting anger at prior experiences color his attitude with me.

I don't think he *gets* certain physical and symbolic aspects of sex from a female viewpoint. And while he listens and tries to understand, I think his ability to totally understand has some limitations.
