What country do you live in? If you are in the US, do you have insurance?

I know that long waits are typical in some non-US places, and I hope that people from there could help you.

In the US, you should be able to see a therapist in less than 9 months. If you don't have insurance, or are on medicaid your options are more limited, but you still should be able to get in within a couple of months.

Talking to family and friends can be either very helpful or quite painful - depending on their knowledge of mental illness. I would start by trying to identify who you know who seems the most compassionate and flexible, who has discussed mental illnesses in the past (either their own experience or the experience of people they are close to). People who have never had experience with mental illness can have a really hard time understanding it.

When you do find someone who seems to understand you have found gold. These people will make an incredible difference in your life.

You could also seek out a support group, as these people will be more likely to understand what you are going through.

And post here. Many of us will be able to relate to you.
